And reviewing the full series necessitates an understanding that this is one of those shows where events hit the fan. That's where season 2 comes in, but goes above and beyond to subvert the entire purpose of their initial trials. Rayearth's three main characters do grow and get stronger, but season 1 does not make much time to bask in their results. The first season is an episodic journey of little consequence. The show is broken up into two seasons that feel recognizably similar, but pursue two opposing objectives. That being said, while Rayearth was the greatest blind watch of a TV series I’ve had the honor of treating myself to, it shows its age more than I hoped. My interest in it did recently grow though as I developed a greater taste for shoujo products and the pre-digital classics. I think I heard about Magic Knight Rayearth for the first time in 2009 or 10–through an Anime Dissection review that I’ve long since forgotten about. If you're only interested artwork and sound then go else where as this is nothing special, but if you want a good story and characters that you'll root for, even the villans many times, this will really do it for you.īlind watches are a hell of a thing. It really does just make them memorable in a way the music wasn't. Their reasons for what they did, and how they got where they are. Being what it was, all of the characters got some decent screen time and characterization without dragging out and bogging down the story. I liked all of them, the main cast, the support cast, even the villans. Skipped the opening and ending of the first arc, dealt with the second arc.Ĭharacters: Amazingly enough, I actually liked them. Thourghly enjoyable.Īnimation: Can't complain, doesn't look any worse than any of the other CLAMP works I've seen from the same general time period. Overall it turned out much like one would expect but with some decidly adult themes thrown in for a childs show. The second half left a little to be desired and didn't quite measure up to the first in final epic turns. The last few episodes of season one made up for the standard fare of the first dozen and a half. Story: Overall, this started out like so many other crappy anime but it really turned it around in the end.
